We invite you to submit your paper to the following special issue â??
Bulletin of Volcanology:

*The January 15th 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haâ??apai eruption - Special Issue*

The January 15th 2022 Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haâ??apai (HTHH) eruption unleashed
devastating impacts on the Kingdom of Tonga, resulting in damage from
ashfall and the associated tsunamis as well as, tragically, four deaths in
Tonga and two in Peru. The eruption also exhibited a range of extreme
phenomena rarely (or never) previously observed, including an eruption
plume up to ~ 55 km high, audible soundwaves across the Pacific region, and
meteotsunamis that appeared to â??jumpâ?? over landmasses.

After a year of this unique eruption, a topical special issue on various
aspects of the event will be highly beneficial to the scientific community.
We welcome contributions on any topic concerning the eruption and tsunami,
including but not limited to the following themes and subthemes:

*1. Eruption and fragmentation processes*

   - Textural studies of lapilli and ash to determine fragmentation
   mechanism
   - Recreating the HTHH event: Experimental and modelling approaches to
   constrain magma ascent dynamics

*2. Petrology and geochemistry*

   - Glass and mineral chemistry characterising magmatic affinities
   - Elemental diffusion and timescales of magmatic processes
   - Melt inclusion studies and volatile quantification

*3. Ash: plume, cloud and fallout*

   - Remote sensing observations
   - Modelling
   - Field observations
   - Big plume, short-lived ash cloud: where did it all go?

*4. Volcanogenic tsunamis*

   - Near-field volcanogenic tsunamis
   - Global volcanogenic tsunamis (or volcanic meteotsunamis)
   - Tsunami observations

*5. Geomorphological changes to HTHH*

   - Proximal evolution of the vent area including islands
   - Wider submarine landform change related to the eruption

*6. Impacts and response*

   - Ash hazard characterisation and associated messaging
   - Implications for clean-up and re-use of ash
   - Impacts (including multi-hazard impacts) on soils, crops, coastal
   fisheries, water resources, built environment
   - Analysis of social media coverage
   - Behavioural responses to eruption
