Please share the information below with interested persons. *Position Summary*: Towson University Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a full-time Instrument Support Specialist (12-month position) to oversee the operation and maintenance of instrumentation for environmental chemistry, geochemistry, and biogeochemistry analysis in the Urban Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory (UEBL). *Responsibilities & duties*: The UEBL is located in a newly constructed science building with primarily new instrumentation. Applicants should have extensive experience working with advanced scientific instruments and the ability to learn additional instrumentation. Core instrumentation includes: ion chromatograph, inductively coupled plasma (ICP) instruments (two ICP-mass spectrometers, one ICP-optical emission spectrometer), carbon/nitrogen analyzer for liquid samples (Shimadzu), elemental analyzer for carbon and nitrogen in solid samples, discrete analyzer (e.g., phosphorus, ammonia). These instruments serve a diverse group of faculty and students in the areas of Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, and Physics. The Instrument Support Specialist will be responsible for the oversight and routine maintenance of instruments, oversight and development of new analytical methods and QA/QC protocols, and supervision and training of facility users. *Qualifications & skills*: Required: - Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geosciences, Chemistry, Ecology/Biology, or a related scientific discipline. - Three years of experience independently operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining diverse instrumentation. - Candidates with a graduate degree in a relevant field should have at least one year of experience independently operating instrumentation. - The Instrument Support Specialist will be a scientist with demonstrable technical skills and excellent work habits. - Candidates should be able to work equally well either independently or in a team setting. - Excellent communication skills are necessary to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students and to provide instrument training.
