2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 From: Susan DeBari <sue.debari@xxxxxxxxx> I am looking for motivated students to apply to Western Washington University's M.S. program to work on a research project related to volcanism in the Hellenic Arc (Aegean Sea). The project will utilize tephra collected during International Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) Expedition 398 ( https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://iodp.tamu.edu/scienceops/expeditions/hellenic_arc_volcanic_field.html__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!arktHs2lQd2en9balpT5Kdmp3U5sKivIx30q9tFRpfF9clz3TP1qtbghQKF1kuifm0_rAEOEIWIAzzzB$ <https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://iodp.tamu.edu/scienceops/expeditions/hellenic_arc_volcanic_field.html__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!cksXCT3oakxz60qN0c0zbfDDpi8JwCDOCraUD_Zh02Y4mcqRHa0QuuPzTxtxbiEbItPeEzcyQRt3skZEvfgPOZk$> ) The student will work under my supervision for a specified 2-year research project culminating in a thesis and a publication, but the larger scope will include collaboration with other shipboard scientists. The project will involve geochemical analyses of mineral phases and glass in tephras (SEM/E-probe, LA-ICP-MS for trace elements). The goal will be to constrain magmatic processes magma storage conditions, and track changes over time. Please contact Dr. Susan DeBari (debari@xxxxxxx) for more information. Students must apply by January 15. The student will be funded by a teaching assistantship during two academic years and a summer research assistantship, with associated tuition waivers. WWU has a vibrant MS research program (~35 students) and a large undergraduate geology program (~150 students).
