Here different stages of mountain building processes will be shown through the incremental lens of earthquake studies. This tour starts with the comparably simple Nepali Himalayan frontal thrust, moves to the more complicated Kyrgyz Tien Shan, and finishes in the enigmatic Walker Lane belt of California. Each of these regions highlights different challenges in the study of earthquake hazards and tectonics, yet each are united by common principles and can be studied using similar methods.
