The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Volcano Science Center seeks to hire two
recent college graduates to contribute to daily and weekly global volcanic
activity reports. One of these positions will be based at the Cascades
Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, WA and the other in Washington, DC. Both
positions will work closely with the Smithsonian Institutionâ??s Global
Volcanism Program, and the daily report will be posted on the Global
Volcanism Programâ??s website (https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://volcano.si.edu/index.cfm__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!Yi8j0QVuakQuJb0w9Qjwrfkac-F0ftYC7MOcp4QkyaZMDaDdWAsuqN2hihJ-99nnBnDc4y8DzGUJ4VGZ$

The work is funded through USAIDâ??s interagency agreement with the USGS to
support the Volcano Disaster Assistance Program (volcanoes.usgs.gov/vdap).

The new hires will collect detailed volcano information from a variety of
online platforms in multiple languages. They will help develop and modify
workflows to capture, archive, and summarize key phenomena related to
volcanic unrest and eruptive activity as part of a team of scientists in
the USGS and the Smithsonian Institutionâ??s Global Volcanism Program. They
will prepare figures, maps, charts, diagrams, and tables as necessary for
reports for scientific and public use. New hires will spend several weeks
in both Vancouver, WA, and Washington, DC for training.

Ideally, the new hires will be experienced with volcanological terminology
and should work well as part of a team. Experience with a foreign language
would be helpful. Applicants must be US citizens, will be hired at the
GS-7 level, and must have completed a college degree within the past 2
years. The job terms will be for one year, extendable up to four years.
