Room location to be announced. *What we will accomplish: *Software that allows petrologists to simulate complex processes that predict how rocks melt and magmas evolve compositionally are growing in number and complexity. This workshop will provide a framework for designing and executing a computational petrology research project and will engage participants in utilizing software called the Magma Chamber Simulator (MCS) to address questions about open system magma evolution in terrestrial or other planetary settings. - Participants will perform hands-on exercises to become familiar with operating the MCS code and exploring the output. - We will review several case studies that use MCS, enabling users to develop a deeper understanding of the range of petrological/geochemical problems that can be addressed. - We will also discuss the design of a computational petrology project. - Breakout sessions will allow participants to work collaboratively, network, and benefit from the experiences and expertise of other scientists. *Petrologists of all levels are encouraged to join the workshop!* If you have already taken a MCS workshop, please consider joining us again for additional training on the latest MCS release. In this workshop, we can offer more advanced training and/or help with your specific applications.
