ACE is a small satellite mission conceived by Peter and his colleagues in the late 1990s and launched by Canada in 2002. As its name suggests, ACE makes detailed measurements of the chemistry of the atmosphere. Although it was planned to be a two-year mission, ACE is still operational 19 years after launch. Two of the primary objectives are delineating the effects of wildfire smoke and volcanic eruption plumes on the chemistry and physics of the atmosphere.
