at American University seeks a full-time research fellow in the fields of
atmospheric aerosol modeling. The research fellow will join the
NASA-sponsored project â??Tracking volcanic gases from magma reservoir to the
atmosphere: identifying precursors and optimizing models and satellite
observations for future major eruptionsâ??. Within this project, the research
fellow will work on characterizing the role of volcanic ash in the
development of mixed ash/sulfate plumes in the NASA GEOS Earth System Model
using satellite and in-situ observations, as well as the output of a plume
model.

Responsibilities:
Specific duties of the position include:
- Model development and implementation in FORTRAN and Python.
- Use of remote sensing data.
- Analysis of climate model output.
- Presentation of results at scientific meetings and publication in
scientific journals
- Mentoring of graduate and/or undergraduate students.

This is a 1-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal based
