We are excited to advertise a fully-funded PhD studentship: â??The hunt for massive mystery eruptions: novel geochemical tools to interrogate the ice core archiveâ?? The project will use state-of-the-art geochemical tools to investigate the ice core records of the largest unidentified volcanic events in the last millennium. We will undertake high time resolution isotope and cryptotephra analyses to unravel the source and eruptive style of these massive mystery eruptions and provide new insights into their climatic and societal impacts. This project will suit an enthusiastic student with a strong geoscience background, and an interest in Sherlock Holmes style forensic volcanology! All fees, maintenance and research costs are covered, and it is open to all applicants (i.e. there are no geographical restrictions).
