Dear colleagues,

*Volcanica* (a *diamond open access diamond* journal for volcanology;

) is excited to announce the *launch of a dual-language Special Issue
of Report articles from volcano monitoring agencies across Latin
America. *These
reports *are published in English and in Spanish *in full.

The issue can be accessed, freely, in both languages here: *Volcano
Observatories in Latin America
<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.jvolcanica.org/ojs/index.php/volcanica/issue/view/9?fbclid=IwAR1FNDJ4v39Z8UN2BCnKsxLoStLvqJVQaBM9J2MDj_JJ-o8BmpSaHDlzMpA__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!L_-EwrJFWshJ8MQvDa5B1SWKe3GdLmBcd4AbEF8XtYM7jiDWnstrJYJfmgxgkpQ$>.*

This Special Issue is published in collaboration with ALVO (Asociación
Latinoamericana de Volcanología; https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://twitter.com/OficialAlvo__;!!IKRxdwAv5BmarQ!JQ8aJXwngd1nkIsGOnQYIseoP-inJI7Z3Jy5WHFeNsrTuDE-H-TQX7fnS7wx_-U$

whose main purpose is to strengthen and promote volcanology in Latin
America, and to promote international cooperation among Latin American
countries and communities.

Aligned with those goals, this Special Issue contains 11 peer-reviewed
*Report *articles from all official agencies in Latin America who monitor
active volcanism. Each *Report* article documents the active volcanoes
under the monitoring jurisdiction of the agency, the monitoring history in
the given country and the monitoring capacity and best-practice,
outstanding needs and requirements for future monitoring improvements in
the area, and provides up-to-date links and information. *Taken together,
these articles represent the state-of-the-art in volcano monitoring
capabilities throughout Latin America.*

All of the countries in Latin America for which there are volcano
monitoring efforts have Spanish as the national language. Therefore, the
*Report *articles published in our first Special Issue are published in *both
Spanish and English*. We have chosen to produce a bilingual Special Issue
in order to increase the *accessibility* of this research.

As always: work published in Volcanica is *diamond open access* and is
therefore free and easy to access for everyone, from researchers at
universities to people in communities affected by active volcanism. While
there are inherent costs in academic publishing, Volcanica minimises and
meets these costs with endorsement from *Presses universitaires de
Strasbourg* (France). All publications â?? including in this Special Issue â??
are subject to a stringent peer review system to assure impartial
assessment of quality scientific research.
