4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4 From: AIV - Segreteria Associazione Italiana di Vulcanologia < secretary@xxxxxxxxx> GEOLOGICAL FIELDTRIPS AIV - Recent eruptive history of Lipari and Vulcano - Lithofacies Analysis As part of its activities, the Italian Association of Volcanology (AIV), with the collaboration of IAVCEI, organizes a geological field trip on the islands of Lipari and Vulcano (Aeolian Islands). The activities will be carried out entirely in the field during excursions aimed at analyzing lithofacies of pyroclastic deposits and lavas related to medium-low intensity, effusive and explosive eruptions of intermediate and silicic magmas of the recent eruptive history of the two volcanoes. The main characteristics of deposits attributed to different transport and deposition mechanisms, from fallout to pyroclastic currents and lahars, and different types of lava bodies, and the relevant magmatic/ eruptive processes that can be reconstructed through the study of such deposits will be investigated. The fieldtrip aims to increase knowledge of the eruptive systems of intermediate silicic volcanoes characterized by rapid transitions between effusive and explosive activity, the importance of which has increased exponentially in recent years following different eruptive crises. *TARGET : Students and Ph.D. students *WHERE : Lipari and Vulcano (Italy) *WHEN: 5-10 September 2021 *HOW: 4 daily excursions on Lipari (2) and Vulcano (2) *COSTS: 115 Euro included 5 nights of accommodation in the Residence Baia Unci (in single rooms or in apartments with shared bathroom/kitchen) and internal transport.
