*Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris-Université de Paris*

Join the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP) and Université de
Paris (UP).

IPGP (http://www.ipgp.fr/fr) is a major institution for higher education
and research, part of Université de Paris since 2019. IPGP brings together
around 500 people: researchers recruited from all over the world,
engineers, technicians, administrative staff and post-doctoral fellows and
doctoral students from all countries sharing the same passion for Earth,
planetary and environmental sciences. A world-renowned geoscience research
organization, IPGP studies the Earth and the planets from the core to the
most superficial fluid envelopes, through observation, experimentation and
modelling. Special attention is given to long-term observations that are
essential for the study of natural systems. The IPGP is in charge of
labelled observation services in volcanology, seismology, magnetism,
gravimetry and erosion. In particular, IPGP's permanent observatories
monitor the four active French overseas volcanoes in Guadeloupe,
Martinique, Réunion Island and Mayotte.

Anchored in the heart of Paris and strong of its international influence,
Université de Paris (https://u-paris.fr) is among the most prestigious
French and European establishments. Within its four components, the three
Faculties (Health, Sciences, Society and Humanities) and the IPGP, the
knowledge intersects and develops in a culture of interdisciplinarity.
Today 64,000 students, 7,500 staff, 138 laboratories and 4,000 staff work
together to develop scientific projects with high added value, and to train
the men and women whom the world needs. Join them!

*The position opened to recruitment is a Professor at Université de Paris
who will be affiliated to* *Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris*

*Job profile: Fundamental and applied volcanology*

We seek candidates with a strong background in volcanology able to hold
positions such as head of a scientific team or of our Master program. The
successful candidate will develop strong, externally funded, research
programs in volcanology, with strong links with the IPGP volcanological
observatories.

*Job description:*

*A) **Teaching, pedagogical objectives and need for supervision,
training sectors concerned:*

The IPGP - University of Paris is looking for a professor capable of
participating in the teaching of ST and ASTER licenses, of the Master of
Earth Sciences, Planets, Environment or of the future Master of Risks and
Environment. The recruited person must have experience in supervision and
facilitation teaching teams in different teaching departments and programs. In
particular she should demonstrate their ability to take on the functions of
senior manager or even manager. Relevant training courses: License (ST,
ASTER), Master (STPE, RE)

*B) ** Research:*

The professor will strengthen the skills of the IPGP in the area of
â??Natural hazardsâ??. The objective will be to develop a physical modeling of
volcanic processes at from an integrated theory-observations-field data
approach. Developments may concern different fields such as sedimentology,
stratigraphy, petrology, fluid dynamics volcanic to achieve a modeling of
the processes that govern chemical evolutions and physics of magmas and
their migration between source and surface. This research will aim to
highlight new precursors of volcanic activity and will allow a better
understanding of the history of volcanic structures, eruptive dynamics and
of the relationship between transfer of magma and evolution of buildings.
The leap in knowledge that will result from this research will make it
possible to establish new models of volcanic systems from a better
quantification of causal links between observables, processes and internal
variables of nonlinear systems hidden, and the likelihood of hazardous
eruptive phenomena occurring on the surface. These will have strong
implications for hazard prevention and scientific crisis management in a
context of uncertainty. The professor, although integrated into a team of
the IPGP will have to collaborate intensely with the others IPGP teams
involved in research in volcanology in the broad sense. He should also
interact closely with the volcanological and seismological observatories of
the IPGP in order to participate in ongoing research in Réunion, Mayotte
and the West Indies on the correlations between dynamics / composition /
depth of magma and geophysical parameters (seismic tremor, acoustic,
distortion, etc.) resulting from it.

*C) **Additional activities: *If necessary, follow-up of work-study
students

*All information relating to the application procedures and the selection
are available on the Université de Paris website.*
