Dear Colleagues,

I am soliciting applications for a PhD position funded through NSF Award#
1944723 â??*CAREER: Reactivation controls, timescales, and styles at
quiescent hotspot volcanoes: Insights from the Canary Islands*â??.

The selected candidate to begin in September 2021 will be based at The
Graduate Center and Queens College of the City University of New York. The
research will involve detailed analyses of olivine and clinopyroxene
crystals, as well as their melt inclusions, and application of diffusion
chronometry to quantify the mechanisms and timescales of volcano
reactivation in the Canary Islands. The PhD student will also participate
in the educational component of the project. Previous research experience
in petrology, including use of microbeam analytical methods (SEM, EPMA,
FT-IR, SIMS, or LA-ICP-MS), is preferred. Interested applicants should send
a cover/motivation letter (1 page) that includes a description of
applicable research experience, a CV, a writing sample (e.g., a
publication, an abstract or a term paper) and contact information for at
least two references as a single PDF document to Marc-Antoine Longpré (
mlongpre@xxxxxxxxxxx) by November 1, 2020.
