We are searching for a highly motivated PhD student interested in magmatic petrology and geochronology to join our team. The 4-year PhD project hosted within the volcanology and magmatic petrology group of Prof. Olivier Bachmann is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The research will use detailed petrological, geochronological, and isotopic analyses to focus on better understanding the rate of silicic magma production in the Yellowstone-Snake River Plain large igneous province. The project will be supervised by Dr. Ben Ellis and Dr. Jörn-Frederik Wotzlaw (ETH Zurich) and involve collaboration with Dr. Dawid Szymanowski (Princeton). The successful candidate will ideally have experience of at least two of the following: independent fieldwork, geochemical and petrological study of rhyolites, U/Pb geochronology, clean lab work. Additional information about the project is available upon request. Candidates should hold a diploma or M.Sc. degree with a strong background in geochemistry and/or geology.
