*Two PhD fellowships in magmatic petrology and geochemistry at ETH Zürich,
Switzerland.*

The Institute for Geochemistry and Petrology at ETH Zürich invites
applications for two PhD fellowship in magmatic petrology and geochemistry.

We are looking for highly motivated PhD students interested in deciphering
the magmatic processes that led to (i) a sequence of Cambrian intrusives
extending from Namibia to Brazil and related to the assemblage of
West-Gondwana and (ii) shallow plutonic and volcanic rocks of NW Namibia
related to the Cretaceous opening of the South Atlantic. The projects will
be based on a combination of fieldwork, petrological and geochemical
analyses of rocks and minerals, U/Pb geochronology and possibly some
numerical modelling of magmatic processes (sensu lato).

The length of the appointment will be for 4 years. Candidates should hold a
MSc degree with a strong background in geochemistry and petrology, with
additional skills in quantitative methods and a strong taste for
challenging analytical and fieldwork. The PhD projects will be integrated
in the groups of Profs. Max Schmidt and Olivier Bachmann, in collaboration
with the Namibia Geological Survey.

ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity employer and offers excellent working
conditions in a highly stimulating environment as well as a highly
competitive salary. Interested candidates should send their applications
including a CV, short research statement and contacts of three reference
persons in a single pdf file to Max Schmidt (max.schmidt@xxxxxxxxxxxx) and
Olivier Bachmann (olivier.bachmann@xxxxxxxxxxxx <bachmano@xxxxxx>).
Selection will start immediately and continue until the positions are
filled.
