3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 From: Leticia Freitas Guimaraes <lefguimaraes@xxxxxxxxxxxx> We are pleased to invite the volcanological community to be part of the debate on how gender-gap phenomena manifest themselves in our field, share experiences and propose actions for a more egalitarian science. Please help us by responding to our survey available in English, Spanish and Portuguese versions through the links: EN: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSct5p5M0tOfUl0acTaUjVEUYVElARs1AyX43WexG4MPP_Bw8w/viewform?usp=sf_link ES: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd3jv5HH3LymjYa4nf5yJaNhXZpS8QCpRuyvAXz5NFbOBhSWQ/viewform?usp=sf_link PT: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrIP7DgqmniBXhYyzmo6961RbCv5kPhEyRfZbioYvbiDpwCQ/viewform?usp=sf_link The results will be discussed in the panel "Gender Diversity in Latin American Volcanology: Facts, Challenges, and Prospects", taking place at the 1st ALVO Conference, in Antofagasta, Chile, from 3rd to 7th November. Be there or be square! *Panel description:* *â??Gender Diversity in Latin American Volcanology: Facts, Challenges and Prospectsâ??* * In the past few years, Latin American countries, as other countries in the world, have been going through what is known as the â??Feminist Springâ??. Gender equality is, therefore, a relevant and necessary topic. Several studies indicate a positive relationship between more diverse groups (not just in terms of gender, but also racial, age groups, etc.) with equal opportunities, and a higher collective intelligence factor; that is, more egalitarian groups produce more and better.* *Studies over the past few decades have addressed the low retention of women (and professionals from other minority groups) in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), phenomenon referred to as â??leaky pipelineâ??, as well as the barriers in the achievement of higher positions, or â??glass ceilingâ??.* *In this sense, we propose a discussion on how these phenomena manifest themselves in Latin American science and, above all, on the importance and representation of women in volcanology. We seek to draw attention to the role models in our region aiming to engage women with different backgrounds and increase their presence in this subject, as well as share our experiences and challenges and propose actions to struggle existing obstacles and imbalances.* 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3-3 ============================================================== Volcano Listserv is a collaborative venture among Arizona State University (ASU), Portland State University (PSU), the Global Volcanism Program (GVP) of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and the International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI).
