Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the AGU 2019 Fall Meeting session
entitled *â??**Cosmic-Ray Muon Imaging: Methodological Advances and
Applicationsâ??. *

Deadline for abstract submission is July 31st :
https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/ns/papers/index.cgi?sessionid=77725

We welcome contributions from the methodological, instrumental, and applied
point of view, in order to build a solid community that can foster further
advances in this exciting field.

Feel free to forward this invitation to your collaborators.
Best regards,

Jacques Marteau, for the conveners.

*Cosmic-Ray Muon Imaging: Methodological Advances and Applications*
*Session ID#: * 77725 (NS)
*Session Description:*

Cosmic-ray muon imaging or muography uses the natural flux of elementary
particles called muons to characterize the density structure of geological
bodies. Density is estimated by comparing muon fluxes before and after
traversing the body, in a similar way to X-ray radiography. Density changes
in time can also be estimated by continuously measuring the muon flux with
a fixed muon detector. This technique offers new opportunities to study
targets ranging from large bodies such as volcanoes or geological
structures above deep tunnels; to meter-scale ore bodies and archeological
structures.

We seek to further advance this method by bringing together methodological
and numerical studies, data processing techniques, instrumentation
developments, and case studies. We particularly welcome studies combining
muon imaging with other geophysical methods or data constraints, aiming for
an improved characterization and understanding of the subsurface.
