AIV - International School in Volcanology 2016, Second Circular
****************************************************************************************************
Dear Collegues,
we would like to bring your attention to the II Circular of the forthcoming AIV - International School in Volcanology 2016 "From field data to volcanic hazard assessment: the case of Mt Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei caldera" will be held from Saturday September 24th to Friday September 30th, 2016 at the INGV – Osservatorio Vesuviano, Naples, Italy.Second Circular
AIMS: The School is aimed at discussing the contribution of field-based volcanological data for hazard assessment. Lectures and field work will be focused on the Neapolitan volcanoes case studies and particularly to illustrate the path that takes from field work, to definition of scenarios, to numerical modeling, to mapping of relevant hazards and related impact. The school is organized with two days of lectures and open discussion and three days of fieldtrip. In the field short presentations will be addressed to solicit discussion on the importance of field data collection for hazard assessment at a central volcano or at a large caldera.
TARGET: Graduate and Ph.D. students; young researchers in volcanology
LOGISTICS: The School will be held in Naples, one of the largest cities on active volcanoes in the world.
WHEN: 24 -30 September 2016
FEES: ≈600 Euros (number of participants, minimum 15, maximum 25), including 6 nights accommodation (full-board) and internal transports. Transports to and from Naples are not included.
VENUE: afternoon 24 September (registration, icebreaker and dinner). Noon 30 September: check-out
PROGRAM
Active volcanoes of the Neapolitan area (Volcanism of Campi Flegrei caldera and Somma Vesuvius, Magmatic evolution, Structural and Deformation style).
Pyroclastic deposits, impact parameters and related hazards (Pyroclastic Density Current, Tephra Fallout, and Volcanoclastic flow deposits).
Modeling physical and impact parameters of explosive volcanism (Modeling eruptive columns and tephra dispersal, Numerical simulation of PDC propagation).
Volcanic hazard mapping (Field data for the definition of eruption scenarios, GIS and Remote Sensing, Probabilistic approach for PDC and Tephra fallout hazard maps).
Impact of eruptions and volcanic risk evaluation (Impact of volcanic eruptions, Structural vulnerability, Civil Protection hazard and risk zonation, Probabilistic approach to decision-making during volcanic crises).
Present state of the neapolitan volcanoes and Monitoring system at the OV
(Osservatorio Vesuviano monitoring room)
Fieldtrips: Somma-Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei (1,5 days each)
