Volcanic Ash Impacts & Mitigation - new website launched!

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the release of the completely updated Volcanic Ash Impacts & Mitigation website:

https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanic_ash/

Volcanic-ash hazards are far reaching and disruptive, affecting more people, infrastructure, and daily activities than any other eruptive phenomena.

This web encyclopedia provides information on the impacts of volcanic ash and mitigation strategies for dealing with them. Content is summarized from expert and peer-reviewed sources.

The initial material for this Web site was developed by Jennifer Adleman and Steven Brantley of the U.S. Geological Survey, David Johnston, Richard Fisher and Bruce Houghton.

The site has undergone a complete review with a large amount of new content. It is now database driven and has a new look and navigation.

It is developed and maintained by the Volcanic Ashfall Impacts Working Group of the CAV Commission, IAVCEI, through the support of several partners:

U.S. Geological Survey, Volcano Hazards Programme (the coordinating hosts)

GNS Science, New Zealand

IAVCEI's CAV and IVHHN Commissions

Canterbury and Massey Universities

As always if you have material (information or images) you'd like to contribute to this website please let us know!

Also, the Ashfall Impacts Working Group will be running a workshop at CoV9 in November in Chile, we hope to see you all there!

All the best,
Kristi Wallace, Carol Stewart, Thomas Wilson and Graham Leonard
