Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a post-doctoral opportunity through the Mendenhall Research Fellowship Program of the U.S. Geological Survey.  The focus of the postdoc is on volcano-tectonic interactions, and the position is based in either Vancouver, Washington or Menlo Park, California.  The postdoc will explore the interplay between tectonism and volcanic activity in the western United States -- home to a range of tectonic environments (including the San Andreas Fault, Cascadia Subduction Zone, and Basin and Range), volcano types (stratovolcanoes, monogenetic volcanic fields, shield volcanoes, and calderas), and compositions (basalt to rhyolite).  We seek an early-career scientist with experience in geophysics (especially deformation and/or seismology) and/or geology (especially structural geology) and skills in modeling techniques that can be applied to better understand the influences and feedback between volcanic and tectonic activity.

Full details for the position are available at: http://geology.usgs.gov/postdoc/opps/2016/round16/16-6%20Poland.htm

If you have questions, please contact Michael Poland (mpoland@xxxxxxxx) for more information.  Application deadline via the web site above is May 2, 2016.

Many thanks,
The Mendenhall Project 16-6 research team
(Mike Poland, Dan Dzurisin, Mike Lisowski, Rob McCaffrey, Emily Montgomery-Brown, Kyle Anderson, and Chuck Wicks)
