Dear colleagues,
Apologies for any cross-posting of this message.
I’m pleased to announce that abstract submission for the 2nd Virtual Geoscience Conference (VGC 2016) is now open and ready to receive your contributions. The deadline for submissions is 30th April 2016, and these will be reviewed by our scientific committee.
VGC 2016 (http://virtualoutcrop.com/vgc2016) will take place in Bergen, Norway, September 21-23 2016 and is a multidisciplinary forum for researchers in geomatics, geoscience and related disciplines (e.g. visualisation, computer vision and graphics) to share their latest developments and novel applications. As methods such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, UAV-based data capture and remote sensing imaging are adopted, a paradigm shift is occurring in the way we approach problems in geoscience. VGC 2016 aims to showcase the latest developments in acquisition methods, processing techniques, analysis and communication of results, while highlighting novel applications.
VGC 2016 is organised in association with the Geological Remote Sensing Group, The Geological Society of London and Geological Society of Norway.
The first *keynote speaker* is now in place – Prof Lars Harald Blikra from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, an acknowledged expert on geohazards caused by Norway’s unique topography, who will outline the contribution of geomatics techniques to manage risk from a higher level societal perspective. This is set to be a highly interesting plenary!
In addition, we are organising an exciting social programme, including conference dinner on Mount Fløyen, with the best views in town. Information on conference registration is in place and will open soon.
Please pass this information to colleagues and contacts who may be interested in participating. On behalf of the organising and scientific committees I’m very much looking forward to receiving your contributions to VGC 2016, as well as welcoming you to Bergen in September!
Best regards,
Simon Buckley
