Contributions from Below: The Role of Subduction Zones in the Evolution of Continental Crust
Keynote Speaker: Adam Kent (Oregon State)
Significant
mass transfer occurs within subduction zones, and most new continental
crust is produced within arc systems. Thus this session will focus on
how processes occurring within subduction zones affect and contribute to
the evolution of continental crust. We seek submissions on a variety of
relevant topics (e.g., formation of magmas, element recycling, sediment
diapirs, underplating of subducted material, structure of the
lithosphere, etc.) from an array of disciplines including geochemistry,
petrology, geophysics, and geodynamics on the grain- to orogen-scale.
Goldschmidt will be held in Yokohama, Japan from 26 June to 1 July. Abstracts are due next Friday, Feb. 26th.
