Dear All

We would like to draw your attention and invite you to submit abstracts to session 8d, at Goldschmidt 2016 in Yokohama, Japan

(http://goldschmidt.info/2016/):

"Linking Magma Ascent Processes to Volcanic Phenomena, Eruption Dynamics and Eruptive Deposits"

Keynote: Diego Perugini (University of Perugia, Italy)
Invited speakers: Laura Pioli (University of Geneva, Switzerland), Satoshi Okumura (University of Tohoku, Japan)

We need to understand the link between magmatic behavior in the depth and observational data obtained by geochemical and geophysical methods for volcanic eruptions and products in order to improve hazards assessments in terms of scales and styles. In the last decades there have been a significant developments of technology and huge data sets. In addition, new numerical simulations have been also available for whole stages of magma ascents. In order to make significant steps forward, we need to integrate all methods from instrumental and geological field works, laboratory experiments for natural and analog materials, numerical and theoretical modeling for wide ranges of magmatic major and volatile compositions of volcanoes. We highly encourage the results from field works which stimulate experiments and theories, as well as experimental results which are applicable to natural volcanic phenomena. Key aspects include gas emission data, tremor characteristics, deformation of volcano, texture and chemistry of rocks and minerals, decompression and cooling experiments, bubble dynamics (nucleation, growth, coalescence and deformation), laboratory models of volcanoes, material properties such as rheology, diffusivity and surface tension, numerical modeling of magma dynamics in conduits and magma reservoirs.

Please encourage students and postdocs to contribute to the session.
More informations on the abstract submission process are available at: http://goldschmidt.info/2016/abstracts
The on-line abstract submission deadline is February 26, 2016.
Please feel free to contact either me or any of the other co-conveners in case should you have any question.

Best wishes

Atzushi Toramaru ,  Antonio Costa, Harald Behrens  and Francesco Vetere
