A new book about the life and times of Dr. Thomas A. Jaggar, founder and director of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory from 1912 to 1940, is available just in time for the holidays. The Last Volcano is authored by John Dvorak, a retired USGS scientist who now lives on the Big Island of Hawaii. Dvorak's earlier book, Earthquake Storms, chronicled the evolution of scientific understanding of the San Andreas Fault. The Last Volcano is available from various online booksellers.
Volcano Listserv is a collaborative venture among Arizona State University (ASU), Portland State University (PSU), the Global Volcanism Program (GVP) of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, and the International Association for Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI).
