PhD Studentship on 'Volcanic Ash Deposition in Jet Engines'
*****************************************************************************************************
To Whom It May Concern
The ‘volcanic ash vs. jet engines’ research group at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich is currently offering 1 fully-funded doctoral studentship for 3 years, investigating the influence of volcanic ash on jet engines.
PhD Project: Wetting and infiltration of viscous volcanic ash on thermal barrier coatings.
The wetting and infiltration dynamics of volcanic ash strongly impacts deposition in hot jet engines. In this project, the doctoral student will experimentally investigate the spreading and penetrating dynamics of viscous volcanic ash on thermal barrier coatings (Air plasma spraying (APS-TBCs) vs. electron-beam physical vapour deposition (EB-PVD TBCs)).
