Dear All
The Large Magnitude
Explosive Volcanic Eruptions (LaMEVE) database is a
product of VOGRIPA (Volcano Global Risk Identification and Analysis
Project), a component of the Global Volcano Model (GVM). LaMEVE is an
open access database, containing data on all recorded Quaternary
eruptions of magnitude 4 and above.
Version 3 of the LaMEVE database is now available at www.bgs.ac.uk/vogripa. Updates in Version 3 include the following:
Version 3 of the LaMEVE database is now available at www.bgs.ac.uk/vogripa. Updates in Version 3 include the following:
-
Close to 500 volcanoes have been removed in consultation with the GVP.
These volcanoes were either duplicates, deemed to have had no Quaternary
age activity or not a volcano.
- New eruptions have
been added. These include recent eruptions up to 2014, newly identified
eruptions in recent literature and the addition of data due to the
extension of the Quaternary period from 1.8 to 2.588 Myr. Some eruptions
have also been deleted, as recent literature demonstrated they were of
the wrong size or age for the database. In total we have moved from
1,884 eruptions in Version 2 to 1,927 in Version 3.
-
Data on existing eruptions has been updated to reflect new literature,
the GVP and Hayakawa databases, and all links to references have been
completed.
- Magnitudes for all Japanese eruptions have been re-calculated using literature-sourced volumes.
- All dating data quality indices have been checked and completed.
Please
note that Sian Crosweller has now left the department, so please
contact me if you have any questions, new data or for a download of the
database.
Best wishes
