Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to an upcoming event:

Workshop on Volcanoes 2016 (Santiaguito, Guatemala):

https://sites.google.com/site/wov2016/home

Volcanologists use a diverse array of techniques to monitor and study active volcanoes. These various methods provide complementary observations that, when combined, reveal greater insights into volcanological processes than any one technique used in isolation. This workshop will gather scientists who study volcanoes through seismicity, deformation, visible-light and thermal observations, gas emissions, and other techniques with the goal of collecting synchronous observations at Volcán Santiaguito and communicating with other scientists about how to better link different types of data.

This meeting is intended as the first in a series of scientific and educational workshop to be held at an active “laboratory” volcano every two to three years.  A selection of principle scientists (PSs) who have different field-based data collection expertise will initiate fieldwork just prior to the formal workshop.  They will install their own tools and commence synchronous observations with other PSs toward the goal of data integration. During the main phase of the workshop additional participants, including students and professionals, arrive. They will have an opportunity to both observe the field installations (which are already set up) and participate in some data collection. Formal lectures by the PSs will be given, but a major focus will be on breakout groups and hands‐on analysis of the data that is concurrently collected. Everyone participating in the workshop, including students and PSs, will share and receive all the data products at the end of the workshop. Following the workshop, analytical results, tools, and integrated products will be delivered to the participants, and made fully available to the broader community in January 2017.

A full description of the workshop, including the application process can be found at:
