Conference - Fogo Island Eruption- Cape Verde

The “2015 Fogo Conference” is an international meeting on Oceanic Island Volcanoes & Society for commemorating the 1st anniversary of the 2014-15 Fogo eruption. This event is organized by the Volcanological Observatory of Cabo Verde (OVC), the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV), the Ministry of Higher Education of Cabo Verde, the National Civil Protection Service of Cabo Verde(SNPC) and the Volcanological Instituteof the Canarian islands(INVOLCAN). Several other institutions and organizations such as the Spanish Embassy in Cabo Verde, European Union Delegation in Cabo Verde, the University of Azores (Portugal), Technological Institute of Renewable Energies (ITER), Cabildo Insular de Tenerife , Canary Islands Government, TACV, BINTER, TAP, UNITEL T+ are planning to collaborate with us on this 1st Anniversary Conference of the 2014-2015 Fogo eruption.
Scientific and technical discussions will be related to the volcanic risk management on oceanic and active island volcanoes as well as to enhance the know-how exchange to better understand and improve the multi-disciplinary initiatives in reducing volcanic risk in islands.
A special session on the international conference will be related to the 2014-2015 Fogo eruption and its impact on the island community. The “2015 Fogo Conference” will also be an ideal forum to discuss about living in active volcanoes (from a favorable perspective) since the short-term hazards posed by volcanoes are strongly balanced by benefits of volcanism over geologic time (volcano tourism, geothermal energy, etc.).http://www.unicv.edu.cv/index.php/conference-fogoeruption
