We are pleased to announce plans for an inaugural Workshops on
Volcanoes meeting to be held in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala Jan. 1st
through 14th, 2016 that will be focused on Volcan Santiaguito.
Santiaguito is an exceptional volcano lab presenting regular ~hourly
explosions, lava effusion, rock fall, and occasional pyroclastic
flows, which may be well observed from spectacular perspectives,
including the neighboring higher summit of Santa Maria.  Santiaguito
activity is particular amenable to observation using a range of
in-situ and ground-based remote sensing tools.

This meeting is intended to bring together researchers, students, and
observatory personnel who are eager to deploy, demonstrate, and share
volcano geophysical data collection techniques and data.  National
Science Foundation funding will support the field deployments and will
provide need-based support for travel to and within Guatemala.

We anticipate the capability to host 50 participants.  Expressions of
interest in participating and/or queries about the workshop are
welcome at any time and should be addressed to both Jeffrey Johnson
and Ben Andrews.  An official circular will be distributed in early July
along with a dedicated website.

We also welcome expressions of interest in help with logistics and organization.

Ben Andrews (AndrewsB@xxxxxx)
