Dear Colleagues,
The
U.S. Geological Survey-Cascades Volcano Observatory (USGS-CVO) is
currently advertising for one or more Physical Science Technician
positions at CVO. This a Vancouver, WA based full time permanent
position with duties that include the design, installation, and
maintenance of volcanic monitoring stations on Cascade volcanoes. The
job is roughly 50% or more lab/office work and at times, up to 50% field
work. Specific tasks include integrating spread spectrum digital
radios, digital broadband seismometers, dual frequency GPS receivers and
DC power systems in remote environments to collect and analyze data
from volcanoes in real time. Work will at times involve strenuous
activity over extended periods, such as hiking, digging, lifting,
bending, mixing and pouring concrete and removing vegetation as part of
the process to install a monitoring station. Physical work is required,
such as lifting and handling heavy materials and equipment up to
70lbs. Strong mountaineering skills are a plus!
The
ideal candidate is a highly motivated individual with a completed
degree in any one of the following disciplines: geology, geophysics,
electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science.
The candidate will work with senior geologists and geophysicists at the
USGS-CVO to establish new volcanic monitoring networks in remote and
harsh environments on volcanoes throughout the Pacific Northwest.
