Dear colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to session 16i at Goldschmidt 2015 in Prague (August 16-21) entitled:
"Dynamics of Magmatic Processes: From Magma Mixing to Crystal Residence Time"

Keynote speaker: Kari Cooper (University of California)

Invited speakers: Ralf Gertisser (Keele University); Peter B. Larson (Washington State University)

The interaction of compositionally different magmas is extensively documented in both the plutonic and volcanic environments. This process is responsible for the extreme textural and compositional variability of igneous rocks, from the meter to the micrometer length scale. The integration of field observations, high-precision measurements and experiments constrain what is possible for a magma mixing system and provide information about its time and space evolution. This is essential in developing models for the interplay between mixing dynamics, geochemical variability and eruption dynamics. The aim of this session is to shed new light on the complexity of magma mixing, and its role as a petrogenetic process and eruption trigger, inviting contributions on a wide range of magma mixing-related topics. In particular, presentations on the following subjects are encouraged: i) two and/or three-dimensional visualization and quantification of magma mixing structures; ii) micro-analy
tical investigations of physical and chemical disequilibrium in minerals; iii) diffusion modeling in melts/minerals and mixing timescale estimation iv) geochemical modeling of major, trace elements and isotope variability due to mixing processes; v) numerical simulations of magma mixing in different geometrical configurations, from magma chambers to lava flows; vi) mixing experiments using analogue fluids and natural compositions.
