Dear Colleagues,
We would like to call your attention to and encourage you to submit abstracts to AGU Fall Meeting session: V004. Chemical Evolution of the Earth’s Mantle.  As a reminder, the abstract deadline is fast-approaching, and abstracts must be submitted by 6 August 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT.

The nature and distribution of chemical heterogeneities in the Earth’s mantle have important implications for our understanding of the structure of mantle convection, mass fluxes, and partial melting. These processes beg a number of fundamental questions: is convection layered or whole; what are the origins of heterogeneities and how have they evolved; how does the behavior of some elements and radiogenic isotopes constrain our understanding of mantle processes; how is heterogeneity expressed in the compositions of MORB, OIB, and their mantle residues? To explore these issues holistically, we invite contributions from all fields including field observations, analytical geochemistry, experimental geophysics and numerical modeling.

Confirmed invited speakers:
Allison Gale (University of Wisconsin – River Falls)
Carolina Lithgow-Bertelloni (University College London)
Allen McNamara (Arizona State University)
Conveners: Fred Davis (Smithsonian Institution), Steve Parman (Brown University), Chris Waters (Scripps Institution of Oceanography), Bram Murton (National Oceanography Centre)

Additional collaborators in the development of this session:
Liz Cottrell (Smithsonian Institution), Katie Kelley (University of Rhode Island), Emily Klein (Duke University), Jason Harvey (University of Leeds), and Sujoy Mukhopadhyay (Harvard University)

Section: Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology (V)
Co-Sponsors:
European Geosciences Union (EGU)
Mineral and Rock Physics (MR)
Mineralogical Society of America (MSA)
Seismology (S)
