Dear Colleagues,

We wish to draw your attention and invite your contributions to Session V014 - Footprints of magma chamber dynamics in eruptive products at the next AGU Fall Meeting, to be held in San Francisco next December 9 to 13.

Focus of the session are magma chamber processes and their record in the eruptive products. Magma chambers host a variety of complex and interconnected processes that can affect significantly the eruptive behaviour of volcanic systems. Magmas reside at a certain depth before being erupted, for a time period that can range from hours to days, months or years. During this time, magmas can (i) cool and evolve, crystallizing and degassing; (ii) mingle and mix with new magmas from depth, typically less evolved and gas-richer; (iii) interact with the rock wall. All of these processes occur at different time and length scales contributing to the evolution of the system. As direct investigation cannot be performed, we must rely on the outcome of these processes: eruptive products carry with them a lot of information on their history, that needs to be unveiled. In this session we welcome contributions that provide insights on how the petrological and volcanological records can be interpreted in terms of reservoir thermodynamics, chemistry and dynamics at different length and time scales.

Abstract submission deadline is August 6 23:59 EDT/03:59 +1 GMT; submission is through the Fall Meeting website, https://fallmeeting.agu.org/2013/.

We hope to see you in San Francisco at our exciting session!

Best regards,

Silvio Mollo (INGV - Rome, ITALY)
Keith Putirka (CFU - Fresno, USA)
Matteo Masotta (BGI - Bayreuth, GERMANY)
Chiara Montagna (INGV - Pisa, ITALY)
