Dear Colleagues,

We encourage you to submit an abstract to session 2-1a "Volcanic tremor,
seismic events and volcanic conduit dynamics: understanding based on
field observations, experiments, and modeling" at the 2013 IAVCEI
General Assembly, to be held in Kagoshima, Japan, July 20-24.

2-1a. Volcanic tremor, seismic events and volcanic conduit dynamics:
understanding based on field observations, experiments, and modeling.

http://www.iavcei2013.com/scientific_program/scientific_program.html#2_1a

Volcanic tremor and seismic events, including long-period (LP) and
very-long-period (VLP) events, are commonly observed at active volcanoes
where they are related to subterranean magma or gas motion, as well as
explosive eruptions. Small to moderate-scale explosive eruptions result
from rapid decompression of a relatively shallow portion of a volcanic
conduit and produce a broad spectrum of seismic events from high
frequencies to VLP. Studying volcanic seismicity provides a way of
understanding eruption dynamics and ultimately improving volcano
monitoring. Recent developments in observational techniques enable us to
install high-quality multi-parameter sensors near active vents,
providing invaluable data that can be compared with experiments and
numerical models. These data also provide fruitful information about
volcanic material rheology and eruption mechanism. In this session, we
will discuss source dynamics of volcanic tremor, seismic events and
explosive eruptions in an effort to understand volcanic conduit dynamics
by combining multi-disciplinary research fields. Contributors from
geophysical studies, field observations, experiments, material rheology,
and modeling are highly welcome.

New deadline for abstract submission is at noon (Japan time) of
February 15 (Friday), 2013. Please submit your abstract by the new dedline.

We hope to see you in Kagoshima!
