Dear All,

We would like to draw your attention to the following volcanic impacts
IAVCEI session:

ENVIRONMENTAL AND ECOSYSTEM IMPACTS OF PERSISTENT VOLCANIC DEGASSING AND
RECENT ERUPTIONS (session 4.2)

http://www.iavcei2013.com/scientific_program/scientific_program.html#4_2)

Much research on the impact of volcanoes on the Earth system has focused
on climate forcing by volcanic sulphate aerosols. However, both during and
between eruptions, volcanoes are also capable of a range of local,
regional and perhaps global environmental effects upon entry of ash and
gases (notably sulphur, halogen and trace metal species) into the
atmosphere, biosphere, pedosphere and hydrosphere. These effects, and the
mechanisms which underlie them, remain poorly documented despite their
relevance for better understanding the relationships between volcanism,
environmental/ecosystem change, and human/societal impacts. This gap in
knowledge was spectacularly unveiled when Eyjafjallajökull volcano erupted
in 2010, which served as a reminder of the still poorly understood
environmental disaster caused by the 1783-4 Lakakigar fissure eruption. In
this session, we invite contributions spanning the Earth, atmospheric,
environmental and biogeochemical sciences to address the fate, reactivity
and effects of volcanic ash and gas emissions in the atmosphere and
oceanic and terrestrial/aquatic ecosystems. Contributions that investigate
the spatially and temporally variable, and often interlinked,
environmental effects in relation to ash and gas emissions from various
types of volcanic activity are particularly welcome, as are those adopting
novel palaeoenvironmental, experimental, geochemical or biological
approaches.

Please submit your abstract by 31st Jan 2013:

All the best for the New Year,
