On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am very pleased to announce you the 8th Workshop of the Commission on Volcanic Lakes (IAVCEI-CVL), to be held after the IAVCEI General Assembly (20-24 July 2013) in Kagoshima, Japan, from 25 to 31 July 2013.

The CVL8 Volcanic Lake Workshop is composed of two parts:
(1) Scientific sessions near Aso Volcano + field work at Aso and Kirishima volcanoes and their lakes (Kyushu): 25-28 July 2013
(2) Field work at Usu and Noboribetsu geothermal areas and their lakes and Lake Kuttara (Hokkaido): 29-31 July 2013 (optional)

For further information and practical details on the CVL8 Volcanic Lake Workshop, please visit the following websites:

I would like to remember you that the Commission on Volcanic Lakes promotes multi-disciplinary research on volcanic lakes.
So, feel free to propose eventual new or "unconventional" research topics, varying from volcanology, volcano monitoring, fluid or rock geochemistry, limnology, biology, geophysics, health studies, economic geology, or other topics you wish to share with the community.

We hope to meet you all near the shores of the impressive Japanese volcanic lakes, to share your science and experience in the familiar atmosphere CVL is known for.

Kind regards,
Dmitri Rouwet
Leader-CVL
