Large Lava Flow field trip announced

Volcano community: An unusual field trip of volcanological interest is planned for next May 25-31, 2013 to Eastern Isle Royale, Michigan. The trip focusses on physical volcanology of large lava flows of the 1.1 Ba Keweenaw Rift. The flows ponded in the rift valley and solidified in millennia-long periods which allowed for in situ differentiation. The trip is limited in number to 15 because of logistical issues.
