Dear Colleagues and Friends,
The second circular of El Hierro 2012 Conference as well as the registration form and abstract format is already available (http://www.makavol.com/workshops/2012-El-Hierro-workshop/). By the time being the organization has received 63 expressions of interest (potential contributions) and around 150 people from 21 different countries (Australia, Belgium, Brasil, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA) has expressed its interest to attend to the 1st anniversary conference of the 2011-2012 submarine eruption off the coast of El Hierro, Canary Islands, SPAIN which will take place on October 10-15, 2012. This e-mail is just to recall the important dates related to this event.
VERY IMPORTANT (flight from Tenerife Island to El Hierro Island)!
The organization is working to get a special air fare ticket with BINTER CANARIAS airlines to travel from Tenerife to El Hierro Island for the conference participants as a group. Therefore, please do not purchase the Tenerife-El Hierro-Tenerife air flight ticket by yourselves since we could get almost a 50% discount. Preliminar program of the post-conference field trip:
October 15, 2012 (Half day)
La
Orotava Landslide tour: geomorphological features and general
geological aspects.
A presentation on the sedimentological
and paleontological characteristics of
the tsunami deposits and their volcanic relationships will be provided by
the field trip organisers.
October
16, 2012 (Full day)
Visit to a gallery crossing La
Orotava Landslide: geological aspects(
materials, faults and ground water
features). Tsunami deposits of Teno (NW
of Tenerife) tour.
Requirements:
No
particular requirements on physical conditions are needed for
any of these
tours. Inside the gallery the average temperature is around 20ºC
, although
same water seepage from the roof and on
the floor is expected. Persons with claustrophobia are not
recommended to get
inside the gallery. Teno area is located near the sea with mild
temperatures,
usually windy, and the relief is smooth. A detail program will
be provided
during El Hierro Conference. For further information please
