Applications close on April 13 for a permanent position in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. The school seeks a Lecturer in the fields of tectonics, structural geology, economic geology or volcanic geology, preferably with strong field skills. In the first 3 years, the position will be 50% funded by the mining company BHP Billiton; the other 50% funding for these 3 years (and 100% thereafter) is from the University of Bristol. During the first 3 years, the successful candidate will be involved in a major new research initiative to investigate the development of porphyry copper deposits. The research project entails an interdisciplinary study of porphyry copper mineralization using a combination of field geology, the interplay of tectonics and mineralisation, physical volcanology, igneous geology, geomorphology and landscape development and experimental petrology. The research team comprises three academic staff members, two dedicated post-doctoral researchers and four PhD students, all funded through BHP Billiton.
