Postdoctoral Position in Physical Volcanology and Magma Dynamics

A Postdoctoral position is available in the Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in the area of physical volcanology and magma dynamics. Two research projects are available that focus on either the fluid dynamics and coupled thermodynamics of magma chambers or on the eruptive dynamics of pyroclastic density currents. The research projects will involve a combination of numerical modeling, laboratory experiments and fieldwork, and the researcher will participate in tailoring the research project to their specific interests. Researchers will have access to the on-site multiphase flow laboratory and cluster computing resources.

Applicants should have (or should soon be completing) a Ph.D. in geology, geophysics, physics, mathematics or a closely related field. They should have an outstanding research record and relevant experience in theory/numerical modeling. Review of applications will begin August 23, 2010 and continue until the position is filled. The position is offered initially for a period of one year and may be extended to two years depending on performance.

Completed applications, including a CV, a brief statement of research interests and plans, copies of up to three relevant publications, and contact information of three potential referees should be emailed (or sent) to:
