We invite your participation in the following special session at the 2010 GSA meeting in Denver.

Session T 36:  Metal-Fertile versus Barren Magmatic Systems at the Arc- to Individual Pluton-Scale.

Much metallic mineralization accompanies igneous rocks in subduction zones, but not all igneous activity is associated with mineralization.  In addition, some subduction zones are known to generate very fertile belts for mineralization, whereas other arcs do not host significant ore deposits. This session will examine recent advances in understanding what types of arc magmas are associated with mineralization, and which styles of subduction zones are fertile for ore deposits. This session also explores the reasons why some intrusions in subduction zones are associated with metallic mineralization and others are not.

Papers related to the following aspects would be particularly welcome:
-Fluid and silicate melt inclusion study on the abundances and behavior of magmatic volatiles and ore metals
-Petrogenetic- and petrologic-indicator trace elements of subduction-related tocks.

Conference Dates: October 31- November 3, 2010
Abstract Deadline: August 10, 2010

Invited Speakers:  Professor Jeremy Richards (University of Alberta) and Professor Robert Bodnar (Virgina Polytechnic Institute)

Session Organizers: Jim Webster (American Museum of Natural History, NY) and Keiko Hattori (University of Ottawa).
