We would welcome applications for a research position in volcanology at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.  The announcement will remain open from July 6 to August 17.

Research Geologist.  The Department of Mineral Sciences, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution invites applications for an entry-level research position in volcanology. The successful applicant will also work with the Smithsonian's Global Volcanism Program, which documents and researches activity of the world's volcanoes toward development of space/time understandings of global activity. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent, with subsequent experience in volcanology focusing primarily on physical volcanology, as demonstrated by publications with high impact in the peer-reviewed literature. The person selected will have had experience working on volcanoes, using field and laboratory or data analysis techniques, ideally also with experience in utilizing large data sets placing volcanoes in regional and global context. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in museum activities, such as exhibits programs, educational outreach activities, and to be involved with professional associations and other organizations within the scientific community. This is a full-time, term appointment with full Government benefits, with potential for conversion to permanent subject to review at the end of 4 years; GS-1350-12; US citizenship required. The museum's authorized salary range for this position at this time is $74,872-$77,368 per annum, depending on experience.
