Dear Volcanophiles,
Please be aware of the following session at this year's Geological Society of America meeting in Denver (October 31-November 3).  We hope to get contributions from workers in fields ranging from volcanology to economic geology to environmental geochemistry.

Session T34: Vapors, Brines, Sulfides, and Mines: Understanding Metal Mobility in Magma-Hydrothermal Systems and Their Supergene Successors

This session explores the processes and phases that control metal partitioning in Earth's crust, ranging from magmas, to their related hydrothermal systems, into mineral deposits, and finally during erosion and oxidation near the surface. What factors control whether  metals volatilize as gases, dissolve in brines, or condense as sulfide  or oxide liquids? What is the fate of those phases during magma  crystallization, degassing, and decompression? How does phase  separation, condensation, and mineral precipitation determine the fate  of metals in hydrothermal systems? Why are some metals concentrated by groundwater migration, acid/base formation, and redox reactions? We  invite presentations from workers in diverse fields including igneous  petrology, economic geology, fluid and melt inclusion research, or  environmental and theoretical geochemistry.

Session organizers,
Jake Lowenstern, USGS Menlo Park; jlwnstrn@xxxxxxxx
Adam Simon, University of Nevada, Las Vegas; adam.simon@xxxxxxxx
Charles Alpers, USGS Sacramento; cnalpers@xxxxxxxx

Keynote Presenters,
Jim Mungall, University of Toronto
Philip Candela, University of Maryland
Ryan Mathur, Juniata College

Abstract Deadline is August 10
