Ph.D. study on crustal deformation in Iceland - vacant position
The Faculty of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland, seeks applicants for a Ph.D. study within the crustal deformation research group at the Institute of Earth Sciences (http://www.earthice.hi.is/). The project will focus on active deformation of the Krísuvík volcanic system, Reykjanes peninsula, using GPS geodetic measurements and InSAR data along with gravity measurements to develop a 3D rheological model of the geothermal system and study processes that could explain recent activity in the Krísuvík region. The student will collaborate closely with colleagues at the Institute of Earth Sciences and international collaborators. It is preferrable that the student hold a MS-degree in geophysics, or related field, and has experience with computer programming and Linux OS. He will gain experience in GPS fieldwork, data analysis, and deformation modeling. For further information contact Dr. Sigrún Hreinsdóttir (runa@xxxxx).
Application deadline is 1st of April 2010. Applications must include a CV, a copy of university diplomas with grade information, and two references. All applications should be sent to starfsumsoknir@xxxxx and marked JVD10SH. All applications will be answered and applicants will be informed about the appointment when a decision has been made.
