CoV6 pre-conference workshop
From: Jeffrey B Johnson <jeffrey.b.johnson@xxxxxxxxx>

Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to offer a pre-conference 2-day workshop in conjunction
with the Cities on Volcanoes VI (COV6) conference in
Tenerife.  This workshop will focus on "Field and remote sensing of
volcanic unrest" and will introduce various tools (see below) used to
monitor and perform scientific study of restless volcanoes.  The
workshop will be held on saturday/sunday May29/May30 (prior to the
COV6 conference) in the Miramar Hotel (one of the conference hotels in
Puerto del la Cruz).
The tentative format of the workshop will consist of four 40-minute
lectures each morning where four specialists (each day) introduce
capabilities, novel applications, and hardware for a particular
discipline.  In the afternoon the workshop participants will divide
into smaller breakout groups and rotate through meetings with the
morning's four individual speakers.  These smaller meetings will
enable more intimate question and answer sessions and/or hands-on
interaction with hardware or analytical tools.  Anticipated schedule
for both saturday and sunday will be 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a lunch
break at the Miramar Hotel at 12:00 to 1:00 PM.  The level of
presentation will be geared toward the graduate student, but
registration is open to any COV6 attendant.
Because we wish to limit the breakout sessions to 12 participants the
total workshop attendance will be capped at 48.  Please register
through the COV6 website at http://www.citiesonvolcanoes6.com/ver.php.
The cost for participation for registered COV6 attendants will be $90
per individual and will include two lunches, and four tea/coffee
breaks in addition to hard copy handbook and electronic materials.
Questions about format of workshop should be directed to Jeffrey
Johnson (jeff.johnson@xxxxxxxxxxx).
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Johnson and Eliza Calder (organizers)
Specialists and topics (subject to modification or schedule change) to
be presented at the "Field and remote sensing of volcanic unrest"
workshop include:
Saturday:
Dr. Mike Burton (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia) -
ground based gas sensing
Dr. Simon Carn  (Michigan Tech) - aerosol and gas remote sensing
Dr. Jeffrey Johnson (New Mexico Tech) - infrasound
Dr. Diana Roman (University of South Florida) - seismology
Dr. Jo Gottsmann (University of Bristol) - ground-based geodesy
Dr. Matthias Hort (University of Hamburg) - Doppler radar
Dr. Pete Lafemina (Penn State) - space-based geodesy
Dr. Nick Varley (University of Colima) - ground-based thermal imaging
