LECTURER IN EARTH SCIENCES

The Geology Program in the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer position, beginning in August 2010.  The nine-month position may be renewed based on satisfactory performance, program needs, and budgetary considerations.

The successful applicant will teach courses, including online courses, in introductory geology (GLG101 and GLG112), and coordinate laboratory sections in conjunction with graduate teaching assistants. The Lecturer will help to develop curriculum and enhance and improve academic lecture, field and laboratory experiences.

Minimum qualifications for this position are an MS in Earth Science or related discipline and experience teaching at least one undergraduate lecture course in an earth sciences discipline.

Preferred qualifications include:
•    PhD in an Earth Sciences discipline
•    demonstrated evidence of positive teaching effectiveness
•    interest in/ability to improve introductory geology lecture courses
•    interest in/ability to improve introductory geology lab courses
•    interest in/ability to enhance field experiences for lower division students
•    experience teaching courses in geologic disasters or hazards and physical geology
•    experience teaching large lecture sections
•    familiarity with the geology of the Colorado Plateau
•    demonstrated experience working with undergraduate students with limited background in natural or physical sciences
•    demonstrated experience in the use and teaching of geospatial information systems
•    experience in and commitment to working with diverse faculty, students, and staff
•    evidence of interest in employing successful, research-tested teaching methods in Earth Science courses

Faculty in the Geology Program of SESES are committed to teaching and research excellence, and to providing the highest quality educational experiences in the classroom, field, and laboratory.  Bachelor and Master of Science degrees are offered.  Departmental analytical and technical capabilities are numerous and state-of-the-art, and include both field and laboratory equipment.
