Lecturer in Igneous Petrology and Geochemistry

The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for the
continuing (tenured) position of Lecturer in Igneous Petrology and
Geochemistry.

Igneous petrology and Geochemistry are core components of the programmes
offered by the Department of Geological Sciences at University of
Canterbury. Applicants for this position will be expected to contribute
to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise
postgraduate research students in the MSc and PhD programmes, and
develop their own research programmes. Applicants must have a PhD and
postdoctoral research in igneous petrology and geochemistry with a
proven research and publication track record in this area.  Evidence of
a commitment to excellent teaching and outstanding research with
potential or demonstrated ability to lead research programmes and gain
external funding will be required.

The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for the
continuing (tenured) position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Hazard and
Disaster Management.

The Hazard and Disaster Management programmes (BSc (Hons), PG Dip. Sc.,
MSc and PhD) at University of Canterbury, New Zealand introduce
graduates in the earth sciences to the realities of managing natural
hazards in society, with the goal of improving the use of geosciences in
hazard and disaster management decision-making. This position therefore
requires a well-qualified research scientist who is committed to
advancing and applying science for the benefit of society, and to
communicating it to non-scientists at all levels.

Applicants for this position will be expected to develop course material
and contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels,
supervise postgraduate research students in the Hazard and Disaster
Management programme, and initiate their own research programmes.  An
excellent research and publication track record in relevant aspects of
the earth sciences and their application to hazard mitigation is a key
requirement. Evidence of a commitment to excellent teaching and
research, with demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, will be
required. Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and
research, and ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate
programmes in geology and/or engineering geology, are essential.
Candidates with experience in the application of leading-edge
technologies to hazard assessment and mitigation may be preferred.

Applicants must have a PhD in an appropriate area of geoscience and its
application to hazard and disaster management, with a research track
record appropriate to their level of application.  The Department of
