Candidates sought for the position of postdoc in the Centre of
Exchange and Research in Volcanology, Facultad de Ciencias,
Universidad de Colima, Mexico. The successful applicant will assist
with various research projects and monitoring programs. They will
also help in the running of the exchange programme, principally
orientating and assisting volunteer students. The research is focused
on the integration of various data sets to produce models to explain
variations in activity at Volcán de Colima. An important part of the
work will be helping to install and maintain parts of the monitoring
network, acquiring thermal, geochemical and acoustic data. Time will
be devoted to the development of software and data analysis. There
will be an opportunity to work on some of the other active volcanoes
of Mexico.

I am looking for an enthusiastic person with initiative who has recently
finished their PhD to come and work at the University of Colima.
Initially it will be for period of one year, with the possibility of an
extension for a further year. The successful applicant will also have the
opportunity to teach courses at undergraduate level in the
Environmental Science & Risk Management course, as well as the
Masters course in Earth Science.

The person needs to have had a decent amount of field experience on
active volcanoes, with an appropriate level physical fitness. Some
ability to program in Matlab would be desirable. They would need
some level of fluency in both Spanish and English. I am looking for
someone to start as soon as possible. A grant of 15,000 pesos will be
paid monthly. Note that the cost of living is relatively low in Colima.
Anyone who is interested should email Nick Varley with their research
interests, CV with two academic referees to nick@xxxxxxxx For
