Girina <girina@xxxxxxxxx> ************************************ BEZYMIANNY VOLCANO: 55o58'N, 160o36'E; Elevation 2,895 m CURRENT LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR CODE: ORANGE PREVIOUS LEVEL OF CONCERN COLOR CODE: RED Strong explosive eruption of Bezymianny finished. Seismic activity of the volcano decreased but about 30 local seismic events occurred at the volcano from 10:20 till 20:00 UTC on December 24. Seismicity of the volcano returned to background levels at 20:00 UTC on December 24. According to seismic data, only 2 hot avalanches were registered on December 25. Big thermal anomaly at the lava dome is noting at present. The activity of the volcano could affect low-flying aircraft in the vicinity of the volcano. Growth of the lava dome continues. KVERT staff is available in the office from 8:30 AM till 6:00 PM (KST or KDT) and by phone during the evenings. KVERT uses daily satellite imagery, information from remote scientific observation stations, real-time seismic data for 10 volcanoes, and other information to monitor activity at Kamchatkan and Northern Kurile Volcanoes.
