Dear Colleagues,

we attract your attention and invite you to contribute to the Session GMPV 8 of
the 2007 European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly in Vienna (April 15-
20), that is described below and on the EGU website at:
http://www.cosis.net/members/meetings/programme/view.php?m_id=40&p_id=240

Session GMPV 8: Volcanic and non-Volcanic Earth Degassing
Conveners: G. Chiodini (INGV, Naples, Italy) and P. Allard (LPS, Saclay, France)

Volatile exchange between the Earth interior and the superficial
envelopes constitutes an important aspect of global geochemical cycles.
Volatile species ranging from major gas components (H2O, CO2, S,
halogens) to trace metals are emitted in variable quantities and
proportions through magmatic and volcanic activity, but also during
non-volcanic (e.g. metamorphic) processes. Their emissions occur under
various forms (e.g. volcanic gas plumes, particulate matter, soil
emanations, bubbling waters, etc.) and thus require widely different
methods of investigation. This Session is aimed at making a standpoint
in our knowledge of volcanic and non-volcanic Earth degassing in terms
of local and global volatile budgets, volatile speciation and degassing
processes, relationships with specific tectonic settings, comparison
with other natural/anthropogenic sources, and environmental impacts.
Contributions from specialists of these various research aspects are
welcomed.

Papers will be considered either for oral presentations of 15 minutes each or
for a poster session. Note that the Abstract Deadline is January 15, 2007.
Abstracts should be submitted through the EGU website at
http://www.cosis.net/members/frame.php?url=meetings.copernicus.org/egu2007/

Yours sincerely,

Giovanni Chiodini
